Rental Conditions / Rate Details Explained
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
This means if the rental car is damaged, you will be covered for the cost of repairing the vehicle, you will however have to pay an excess charge towards the cost of the repair. This excess will depend on the rental agent and the type of vehicle. This applies regardless of fault. This waiver does not include international damage/gross negligence, damage by using incorrect fuel, damage to tyres, loss of keys and damage caused as a result of a breach of rental agreement.
Domestic US rates generally do not include CDW.
Vehicle Theft Waiver
This removes or reduces the renter’s liability for the attempted theft or theft of the rented vehicle. The waiver may carry an excess/deductible amount, which means that the renter will be liable for a certain amount of the value of the vehicle damaged or stolen, for example up to first £2,000 of the damage.
Domestic US rates generally do not include Theft Waiver.
SAFETY TIP: Argus Car Hire recommends that you remove the identifying tag that is usually on the key ring of the vehicle and store it safely elsewhere.
If the vehicle is stolen and the renter cannot return the key i.e. the renter was negligent and left the key in a prominent and vulnerable location, the renter may be liable for the full cost of the vehicle.
Third Party Liability Insurance
Every country has a minimum amount of insurance needed for someone to be permitted to drive. This covers the renter’s liability for any damage caused to other people and⁄or other people’s property. It is usually limited to a maximum of €1,000,000. The insurance is limited and there may be excess i.e. you may be liable for any amount over and above the value of the insurance.
Domestic US rates generally do not include Third Party Insurance.
Premium Location/Airport Fee
These are fees charged at some locations to cover the costs of services in the location. They are generally included in your on-line quote, however some rental agents will charge an additional fee if you take out any optional extras at the rental desk. This extra fee is payable at the rental desk.
VAT Local Tax
This is a tax applied by the government on car rental and the percentage (%) varies from country to country.
This tax is generally included in your online quote but you will be subject to tax if you agree to any optional extras at the rental desk.
Road Fund Tax / VLF
This is a charge applied by rental companies to cover the cost of vehicle licensing.
This charge is generally included in your on-line quote.
Unlimited Mileage
Unlimited mileage is generally included in our rates; however some rental agents may only offer limited mileage. Please check your rental conditions before completing your booking.
Break Down Assist
Breakdown assistance is provided by the rental agent so you will need to contact them directly to report any mechanical failures. Breakdown assistance will only cover you for any mechanical failure of the rental vehicle. You can obtain further information regarding the terms of the cover from the rental provider.

Price Promise
Argus Car Hire sources the best value prices from suppliers across the globe, saving you time and money. We are so confident in our low rates that we offer our customers a price promise.
Our Price Promise: "In the event that you should find a lower price on another website within 7-days of your reservation, we will refund you the difference." All price promise requests are handled Mon to Fri 8am to 5pm. Requests may be submitted any time using the Price Promise form.
Price Promise does not include vehicles that have an "on request" status with ArgusCarHire.com or the company under comparison. The actual rental value and service may only be compared. Optional extra costs including additional driver, child seats, GPS systems etc will not be considered. Price promise covers the before or after booking date up until the rental start date and does not apply to promotional offers. Argus Car Hire must verify the terms and conditions of the alternative offer. When the price, suppliers and T&Cs have been checked, a member of the price promise team will be in contact with an update on your quoted rate. It is important to bear in mind that 'like for like' refers to product and service and not additional options. For example, if the other price is for an off rental airport and Argus Car Hire's is on airport, this will not be deemed 'like for like'.

Licence
What is an international driver's licence and why do I need one?
The International Driving Licence (IDL) is recognised worldwide as a valuable document that identifies its holder as a licensed driver when your licence is not in the same language as the country in which you are driving. You must also produce a National Driver's Licence with this licence; otherwise it will not be accepted.
Do I need both parts of my British licence to rent a vehicle?
If you have the new photo ID licence you must take the paper counterpart as well. If you do not present both the card and the counterpart you will not get the vehicle. Why does Argus Car Hire not display car rental brands?
Why does Argus Car Hire not display car rental brands?
As you know, Argus searches and compares the prices of 550 car rental agents to offer you the cheapest rates in the market. Rental agents constantly compete against each other to ensure that we display their rate as one of our cheapest available offers. Therefore, in the interest of fair competition between our car rental agents, we cannot identify their brand names until after you have completed your booking.
